Change Your Password on macOS

Requirements:

  • macOS 12 or above . If your Mac is running an OS older than 12 you are out of support, at risk, and out of compliance with Mass General Brigham policy. Please contact the Service Desk for assistance with an upgrade.

 

HOW TO: Change Your Password on macOS 13

If you know your password and can use it to log in to your account, you can change your password in System Preferences > Users & Groups.

If your Mac is a corporate purchased Apple laptop or desktop, the default password is the unique asset tag found on the bottom or back of your device (case sensitive, and any "0" is a zero).

 

 

  1. Launch System Settings from the Apple menu, then click Users & Groups.

  2. Click the info button (i in a circle) to the right of your user name. 

  3. Follow the on screen instructions:
