Genetic and genomic technologies are used extensively within Mass General Brigham (MGB). They play an increasingly important role in both the research we conduct and the clinical care of our patients. Mass General Brigham Personalized Medicine (PM) has built and deployed infrastructure to support biobanking, sample management, laboratory operations, variant calling, variant confirmation, variant interpretation, genetic and genomic report generation and genomic knowledge management. We have also collaborated with MGB Digital groups to integrate genetic results into our electronic medical record infrastructure.
Our genomic IT infrastructure continues to rapidly evolve along with the underlying molecular techniques it supports. Significant challenges lie ahead. The IT infrastructure required to fully implement genomic based personalized medicine (PM) does not yet exist. We are dedicated to establishing this infrastructure for the benefit of patients both inside and outside of the MGB network.
