How to Clear the Cache and Cookies in Web Browsers

The Service Desk team can only provide support for browsers (Edge, Chrome, and Safari) that have been certified and come standard with the new Mass General Brigham build computer.  

This page provides instructions for the following browsers: 

Microsoft Edge - Windows

  1. Click on the ellipsis (...) to expand the settings menu
  2. Select History 
  3. Select Trash can Icon

  1. On the "Clear browsing data" window:

    1. Change Time range to "All time" 
    2. Check off all options
    3. Select Clear now

Mozilla Firefox - Windows

  1. Select Open Menu and click History
  2. Select Clear Recent History...
  3. Check Cache and all other options you want to clear
  4. Select Clear Now
  5. Quit Firefox and reopen for the changes to take effect.

Mozilla Firefox - Mac

  1. Select Edit
  2. Select Preferences
  3. Select Advanced
  4. Select Cache
  5. Then on the right-side of the "Preferences" window, click on the Clear Cache button.
  6. Quit Firefox and reopen for changes to take effect.

Safari - Mac

  1. Click on Safari
  2. Select Preferences
  3. Under the "Advanced" tab, check the box next to "Show Develop menu in menu bar"
  4. Select the Develop bar from the top
  5. Click Empty Caches
  6. Quit Safari and reopen for changes to take effect.
  7. Then, clear history
  8. Click on Safari
  9. Click on Clear History
  10. Select All History
  11. Click Clear History

Safari - iOS (iPhone / iPad)

  1. Open the Settings app on your iOS device
  2. Select Safari
  3. Select Clear History and Website Data
  4. Tap Clear History and Data

Chrome - Windows / Mac

  1. On your computer, open Chrome
  2. At the top right, click on the 3 dots  
  3. Click History then History again.
  4. Click on Clear Browsing Data
  5. Click Advanced 
  6. Changed Time range to all time
  7. Check off all options
  8. Click Clear data

Chrome - Android / iOS

  1. Open the Chrome app on your phone or tablet
  2. Tap More at the top right
  3. Tap HistoryClear browsing data
  4. Choose a time range at the top. To delete everything, select All time.
  5. Check the boxes next to "Cookies and site data" and "Cached images and files"
  6. Tap Clear data.
