January 25, 2018 Research Technical Lunch Announcements

  • 2018 ERIS Systems Maintenance Schedule
    • To ensure premium supportability, security and performance, ERIS strives to keep all systems up to their most current and/or stable revisions. To minimize disruption, ERIS will complete all non-critical changes such as patching, firmware updates, etc. on the last Sunday of every month from 8AM to 8PM.
    • The exact schedule is outlined in KB0034064. There have been a few adjustments for holidays and to avoid conflict with the Monthly Information Systems Maintenance (ISM) window.

  • Discounted licenses for EndNote X8 are available for purchase through the ERIS Research Computing Core. EndNote is the industry standard software tool for publishing and managing bibliographies, citations and references on the desktop.
    • Cost is $75 per person
    • EndNote software is sold as a one-time purchase for each version.
    • Request through the ERIS Research Computing Core Service Catalog (Partners network required).
    • Each purchaser/End User may install one copy of the Software on up to three computers for End User's personal use.
    • FAQ: Can I purchase an upgrade from X7? Upgrades are not sold through the Core at this time. Purchasing a new X8 License through the Research Computing Core will be cheaper than buying an upgrade through the EndNote. See additional FAQ in the HOWTO: Purchase and Install EndNote X8 Knowledge Base article. Contact @email with questions or concerns.
  • Electronic "Lab Notebook" Services Survey: You’ve got mail!
    • Don't let this opportunity to share your views on ELNs with research leadership pass you by.  We have heard from slightly less than 10% of the Partners PI population.  We have heard from significantly more bench and clinical researchers than from social and behavioral scientists, genetics researchers, and data scientists.  Don't let your silence skew the data.  The clock is ticking.  January 31st, when the survey closes, will be here sooner than you think.  We want to hear from you before sending survey results to the SVPs.  Your views count!
    • To complete, each Principal Investigator should find an email sent from Partners Research IS & Computing (@email) on behalf of Research Leadership. Contact @email if you have any questions about this survey.

  • ERIS Open House at BWH: Interest Survey
    • The BWH Research Education Program together with Enterprise Research Infrastructure & Services (ERIS) are working to provide an opportunity for you to learn about the breadth of technology services and support available to all researchers at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Please complete a brief, 5-minute survey to assist us in making this event as beneficial to you as possible.
    • Friday, March 23, 2018 from Noon – 4p.m., Save the date!
    • Subject matter experts will be on site and happy to help you navigate the tools and services available to help your research and innovation, discuss problems and answer questions. Presentation bytes will be scheduled throughout the day and info booths will be staffed for 1:1 opportunities.
