On October 25, 2021, Apple will release their latest version of the Macintosh operating system, macOS Monterey (12). At this time there are no issues impacting enterprise services and we recommend an upgrade to Monterey. Please check any non-enterprise software you use for compatibility prior to upgrading and see the chart below for compatibility with Academic applications.
If you choose to upgrade, or if you receive a new Mac that ships with Monterey:
- Ensure your enterprise applications such as Citrix Workspace, Cisco AnyConnect VPN, and Microsoft Office are updated to the latest versions. The latest MGB compatible versions can be found in PEAS Self Service
- Create a backup prior to upgrading. See Apple's official guide here: https://support.apple.com/mac-backup
- Please note: Mac OS X Catalina (10.15), macOS Big Sur (11), and macOS Monterey (12) do not support 32-bit applications. You can check for incompatible applications via Apple menu > About This Mac > System Report> Legacy Software.
Mass General Brigham aligns support with Apple which means only the current OS and two versions prior are supported. With the release of macOS Monterey (12), the only other supported macOS versions will be macOS Catalina (10.15) and macOS Big Sur (11). If you are running an out of date version of macOS, Update Your Mac now, or contact the Service Desk if you need assistance with an upgrade. Older operating systems introduce risk to your data and the enterprise as they are neither patched for security vulnerabilities nor do they comply with MGB policies.
