Hosted solutions are provided to researchers looking to run applications as well as set up databases, servers, or websites.
Digital Research is able to assist customers who have detailed or unique technical specifications that require assistance. Through the Research Computing Core, we offer Systems Development & Web Development expertise at competitive hourly rates.
Digital Research provides free hosting of websites within Mass General Brigham-affiliated hospitals (BWH, MGH, McL, etc).
What's changing?
All websites currently hosted by Digital Research will be moved to hosting in Azure, Microsoft's cloud environment. Files and databases will be synchronized; therefore, no data loss is expected. A few notable changes:
- OS - Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9.6 instead of CentOS 7.9
- NetScaler proxy for added security PHP - upgrading from version 8.2/8.3 to 8.4
- MySQL - upgrading from version 5.6 to 8.0.42
Is there a charge for the website hosting service?
No, the service remains available at no cost to Researchers
Will my content be moved to the new servers?
Yes, data will automatically synchronize to the new server. URLs/paths/content will remain the same.
Will my login be different?
Plesk admin console (the backend) login will be different, since the server names will change. You will be notified after the migration is complete. WordPress login will remain the same, i.e., https://your-lab.mgh.harvard.edu/wp-admin/
Will Bitly links to our sites be affected?
No, since the domains/URLs remain the same, externally referenced links will continue to work.
Will there be a test environment?
Although we do not anticipate any issues with WordPress sites, a test site can be provided upon request. If you'd like a test account on the new server, please email @email.
Will the new server be Git compatible?
Yes.
Will there be downtime?
No downtime is anticipated. Both the old and new servers will be running during DNS changes.
