Timely dissemination of research findings is critical to all investigators, yet electronic data capture (EDC) systems have given little attention to writing and publishing manuscripts. As a result, there is a large gap and often a painful process going from study "raw data" to the end-result manuscript. The awkward, back-and-forth transitions between the database, statistical package, word processor and other tools can significantly delay the process.
Building EDC systems around the dissemination phase has enormous opportunities for streamlining the process. An overview of the opportunities and successful examples of bridging this gap will be demonstrated.
Objectives:
Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Identify common EDC functionality and pain points in manuscript generation.
- Identify opportunities to make the data analysis and publication process more efficient.
- Describe the stakeholders of the dissemination phase and associated target functionality.
