HOWTO: Re-enroll an iOS device in MobileIron

Instructions

Follow the steps below to re-enroll an iOS device in MobileIron.

Check if your device is supervised:

1.  Navigate into your iOS Settings --> General -- > VPN & Device Management

2.  Here, either profile will be seen:

Supervised: MobileIron Cloud DEP MDM Profile

Non-Supervised: Root MDM Profile

Sign into Work or School Account: This indicates there is no profile installed (I.e. the device is not currently enrolled.) and can now be enrolled in MobileIron normally per the directions found in KB0031710

Non-Supervised Devices:

3.  Tap on Root MDM Profile and select Remove Management

4.  Complete the removal process by following the onscreen prompts.

5.  Once the profile has been removed, power the device off, count to 10, power the device back on.

6.  The device can now be re-enrolled in MobileIron normally per the directions found in KB0031710

Supervised Devices:

Re-enrolling a corporate iOS device involves wiping said device and then redoing setup, potentially without reloading from a backup.
The way iOS backups preserve data means that if an MDM Profile is backed up while in a broken state, it will be restored in that same broken state if that backup is loaded onto a device.

If you need to re-enroll a device that is supervised, AND need to reload from a backup then please contact the IS Service Desk to open a ticket with the Mac and Mobile Device Services (PEAS / MobileIron) - MGB group to confirm the device's current enrollment status and determine if this is practical.

If you are able to re-enroll the device without needing to reload from a backup, proceed to the instructions listed below.
Note that once the re-enrollment process is completed, the phone would will still have any data synced to iCloud (if applicable), but will need to re-download any installed apps from the App Store or App Catalog as appropriate.

3.  Navigate into your iOS Settings --> General -- > Transfer or Reset [Device]

4.  Tap Erase All Content and Settings.

5.  Complete the erasure process by following the onscreen prompts.

6.  The device can now be re-enrolled in MobileIron normally per the directions found in KB0033865
