INFO: Existing Dropbox Account Migration to Dropbox Business at Mass General Brigham

Dropbox Business provides unlimited storage, fully encrypted data and is compliant with Mass General Brigham's policies and procedures. Dropbox Business allows you to sync, share, and manage your files online.

If you have a personal Dropbox account that contains Mass General Brigham information, you must move the data to a Dropbox Business account with Mass General Brigham.

If you have a personal Dropbox account that does not contain Mass General Brigham information but uses an institutional email address (e.g. partners.org or mgh.harvard.edu), please change the email address on the Dropbox account to something personal (e.g. gmail, yahoo, iCloud).

If you have a personal Dropbox account that you wish to convert to Dropbox Business, verify that your current personal Dropbox account uses your primary institutional email address.

What is my primary institutional email address? 

  1. Go to http://helpdeskqueries.partners.org/userinfo/def1.html
    1. Scroll down, your primary email address is contained in the External Email Address field
    2. If your Dropbox account uses a different email address, change it to your primary email address
  2. Go to https://www.dropbox.com/account
    1. Click on Change email
    2. Enter your new email address and current Dropbox password
    3. Verify your new email address

Existing Dropbox Business Accounts
Team Admins of Dropbox Business accounts tied to a partners.org or affiliated email address were contacted directly by Dropbox regarding the enterprise rollout of Dropbox Business at Mass General Brigham. Anyone using Dropbox for Mass General Brigham business purposes will be prompted to move to the primary Dropbox Business account to comply with your institution’s policies, standards and procedures.

To request a team merge, please contact enterprise-support@dropbox.com or the IS Service Desk.

What happens once my team is merged?

  • Team Admins will no longer have access to Admin controls in Dropbox. 
  • For support after the merge, individuals will contact the IS Service Desk
  • Individuals associated with the Business subscription will be prompted to log in with Mass General Brigham Single Sign On (SSO). 
  • Files and folders will automatically move to Mass General Brigham Dropbox, and individuals will not have to re-upload or re-share any files and folders. 
  • Dropbox will refund a prorated amount to the original purchase method for time remaining on active Dropbox Business subscriptions.

Existing Dropbox Basic, Pro or Plus Accounts

Accounts linked to a partners.org* email address will automatically be prompted to merge. Additional domains and subdomains will be included in April and May of 2017. 

Once added to Dropbox Business, your account will be logged out and file syncing will be temporarily suspended. In order to resume full use of Dropbox, you will be prompted with the following options: 

  1. Join Mass General Brigham with my current account – Select this option if you use Dropbox for Mass General Brigham business purposes to comply with your institution’s Policies, Standards and Procedures.
  2. Keep my current account personal – Select this option if you have a Dropbox account but do not use it for business purposes; then change your account to a personal email address.

In either case, your files and folders will be associated with the selected account. You will not have to re-upload or re-share any of your files and folders.
