Do More with the Partners PC and Windows 10

Are you looking for more performance from your work PC or in using a more modern and organized layout? Partners is preparing to release many new features and capabilities for the Partners PC including a new Operating System, Microsoft’s Windows 10.

This Fall and throughout 2019, Partners Information Systems, together with all hospitals, will be rolling out Windows 10 to every Partners standard desktop and laptop. The Windows 10 Operating System (OS) is the latest OS for all Microsoft personal computers.

Four Reasons the new Partners PC with Windows 10 will improve your work experience

  1. Speed and Capacity: Because Windows 10 runs on a faster 64-bit architecture, you will see noticeable improvement in the capacity and speed of your work computer.
  2. Improved Layout: Windows 10 offers an improved layout, making it easier to find and organize what you use the most. The new Start Menu, organized by tiles, gives you convenient access to your Partners Applications and Utilities and is visually appealing and efficient.
  3. Customization: You can also add your own desktop tiles for the Start Menu and use other customization options to personalize your work PC.
  4. Security: The Partners PC also comes with enhanced, built-in security features that offer improved protection against modern security threats.

Microsoft’s New Approach to Upgrades

With this version of Windows, Microsoft has rolled out a fresh, new approach to the upgrade process. Instead of major upgrades across our hospitals every few years, there will be smaller, incremental and more frequent upgrades each year.  “These rolling upgrades will make it easier for users to transition to new features with minimal disruption to their daily work,” said John Varner, Partners PC Technical Project Lead, and Manager of Operations for Enterprise Research IS.

Where Are We Now?

While most computer upgrades will occur in 2019, pilot users across our system are actively using and testing the new Partners PC running Windows 10. Testing ensures that all Partners applications, including clinical applications, run optimally with Windows 10. Beginning in late 2018, newly purchased Partners PCs will be delivered with Windows 10 installed. More information will be available as we get closer to actively rolling out Windows 10 and the new Partners PC at specific Partners locations.
