How to Make the Most of Electronic Applications: LabArchives & REDCap

How to Make the Most of Electronic Applications: LabArchives & REDCap

January 15, 2019 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Bornstein Amphitheatre, BWH

Want to go electronic but are struggling on how to make the change? Come to this session to learn how to transition to LabArchives, the Partners supported electronic lab notebook. This session also includes an introductory overview of REDCap and how it can be used to design databases and surveys. Learn about study start up, project life cycles, data management, and how to program data fields and branching logic. Time will also be spent diving into specific REDCap projects such eConsent, eReg Binder and Clinicaltrials.gov as well as an overview of the mobile data collection tool, Stencil, and utilizing the REDCap Application Programming Interface (API). See the full schedule below for details on each topic. Plan to stop in for a few topics or stay for the duration.

Are you already using LabArchives and REDCap? Open forum user group sessions are also scheduled during this event to help bring new ideas, question and concerns to the table.

Time Topic Description
1:00-1:30p.m. LabArchives Overview Want your lab to go electronic but are struggling on how to make the change? Come to this session to learn how to transition to LabArchives, the Partners supported electronic lab notebook. Research groups will be required to begin using LabArchives for research recordkeeping and notation no later than October 1, 2019.
1:30-2:00p.m. LabArchives User Group: Open Session An opportunity for current users to bring new ideas, question and concerns to the table.
2:00-2:15p.m. REDCap Overview This session is to help REDCap users design databases and surveys. Learn about study start up, project life cycles, data management, and how to program data fields and branching logic. This is a general overview demonstration.
  REDCap Project Topics
2:15-2:30p.m. eReg Binder The Electronic Regulatory Binder can assist sites with the electronic storage and maintenance of regulatory documents for Partners IRB approved protocols. This training will include a demonstration of the eReg Binder project with a discussion about how to obtain access, studies it can be used for, and best practices for electronic record-keeping.
2:30-2:45p.m. ClinicalTrials.gov This new initiative to develop a REDCap Adverse Event Reporting Tool will support investigator and institutional compliance surrounding ClinicalTrials.gov Results Reporting. Researchers will be able to collect Adverse Events in real-time during a study and automate the generation of different reports needed by Investigators to meet IRB Continuing Review, CT.gov and FDA reporting table requirements.
2:45-3:00p.m. API The REDCap Application Programming Interface, API, allows external applications to connect to REDCap remotely, and is used for programmatically retrieving or modifying data or settings within REDCap, such as performing automated data imports/exports for a specified REDCap project. Programmers can use the REDCap API to make applications, websites, apps, widgets, and other projects interact with REDCap.
3:00-3:15p.m. Stencil Stencil is a mobile data collection tool built by the Partners Connected Health Innovation (PCHI) team working in collaboration with the ERIS REDCap team. With Stencil, surveys created on REDCap can be quickly converted into a smartphone app that runs on Android and Apple phones. Phone notifications can be used to remind participants when to complete a survey. Data is transmitted directly into the REDCap data base providing real-time data collection.
3:15-3:30p.m. eConsent The REDCap eConsent project is a template that can be used by those who have approval from the IRB to collect the consent document requiring handwritten signatures for their study electronically.  Currently, Partners HealthCare only recognizes using REDCap as a way to collect research consents in situations where someone from the study team is present with or has contacted the person being consented.  Other uses will be considered on a case by case basis by the IRB.
3:30-4:00p.m. REDCap User Group: Open Session An opportunity for current users to bring new ideas, question and concerns to the table.

The Enterprise Research Applications team helps coordinate, lead and support faculty and research study staff in their electronic data capture (EDC), web-based survey, application and digital needs for research studies.
