General Summary/Overview

Partners Healthcare Systems’ (PHS) Enterprise Research Infrastructure & Services (ERIS) Core Facility (http://rc.partners.org/core) has an opening for a User Interface Designer. Reporting to the Manager of the Core Facility, this position will work with customers and our development team to design, develop, test and deliver user interfaces for webpages and software applications as well as gather requirements for these projects. 

ERIS enables and supports the highly successful and innovative research programs of the largest teaching hospitals of Harvard Medical School--Massachusetts General (MGH), Brigham and Women’s (BWH), Mclean, and several community and rehabilitation hospitals. With more than 2200 grant-sponsored programs in the biomedical sciences, ranging from basic, clinical to applied research, ERIS specializes in directly supporting investigators and their research projects through shared services (HPC, data storage, cloud computing) and scientific support (informatics, research IT). The Core is a fee-for-service facility funded through ongoing project work. 

The ERIS Core Facility User Interface Designer will work closely on a daily basis with end-users and IT staff at MGH, BWH, McLean and other Partners affiliated sites.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
 

  • Work directly with multiple customers to design and develop modular front end applications for web applications and mobile platforms capable of easily supporting many different sites with different requirements 
  • Develop user design and user experience (UI/UX) for websites and applications 
  • Work within the development team to define and implement solutions for product direction and visuals 
  • Create wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows, interaction prototypes, and site maps to communicate interaction and design ideas 
  • Provide time estimates to complete project milestones and ensure on time and quality deliverables within budget estimates are met 
  • Work closely with other developers and designers to communicate project requirements 
  • Gather requirements for both the front and back ends of projects, leading assessments with project sponsors and users. 
  • Train/educate end-users in the deliverable's use and function. 
  • Documenting all design and project aspects, technical writing and visualization including detailed, organized, and readable use cases, style guides, and functional specifications 
  • Support team members by proactively driving the design process

Qualifications 

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and demonstrated UI/UX experience required. Graphic design, computer science, or equivalent undergraduate and graduate degrees are preferred 
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in UI/UX Design 
  • Experience with wireframing of websites, rapid prototyping, and design process 
  • Proficiency with tools like Adobe Xd, Balsamiq, InVision, Marvel, Qualtrics, Sketch 
  • Expertise with Photoshop, Illustrator, inDesign, or similar software for prototyping front end designs. 
  • Understanding with HTML5, CSS3, SASS and JavaScript for prototyping 
  • Familiarity working with Agile/Scrum development processes and structure 
  • Familiarity with WordPress, Drupal, or other content management systems 
  • Experience with cross-browser, cross-platform and cross-device considerations, including web-apps on mobile platforms 
  • Experience with JIRA for requirement and issue tracking 
  • Familiarity with JSON, jQuery, AJAX 
  • Knowledge of SDLC, specifically systems testing and validation 
  • Knowledge of version control, i.e. Git, SVN 
  • Awareness of the latest UI trends, techniques, and technologies 
  • Experience in an academic, healthcare or research environment preferred

Working Conditions 
Standard office environment with travel to Hospital locations in the Boston Metro area. 
As projects and priorities dictate, may require 24x7 responsibilities including evening, night and weekend hours as needed
