General Summary/Overview Statement 

Mass General Brigham’s (MGB) Enterprise Research IS (ERIS https://rc.partners.org) is a dual department of Information Systems and Research Information Science. ERIS provides analytics, computing and technology platforms and services for the research, development and education missions of MGB.  ERIS is immediately seeking a Senior Project Manager to drive the project pipelines for the development and sustainability of these platforms that enable the largest academic health and life science research system in the US. Initially focused on Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) this position will work with interdisciplinary teams across IS to complete service, product and platform improvement projects, drawing together the relevant subject matter experts to architect, design and improve the IT services. 

The role requires technical project management with an emphasis on interpersonal and collaborative abilities. Specifically, you will have responsibility for the day-to-day management of assigned projects, operating in an agile/scrum methodology where able, and will be responsible for project management, facilitation and reporting of more than one high priority, enterprise-wide initiative. 

We are seeking someone with an eagerness to learn and apply technical understanding to drive and complete projects within the ERIS engineering teams, crossing IS and vendor boundaries as needed and to take a flexible approach deploying agile project management methodologies where appropriate, while recognizing where traditional project management approaches are necessary for collaboration.  Ideal candidates must have a track record in IT project management and an interest in the fields of IaaS/PaaS, and in enabling user experiences that efficiently provide secure technical services for Mass General Brigham, one of the largest not-for-profit health and life science research organizations in the world.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for the successful delivery of large, multi-year projects which may include third party cooperative initiatives and joint ventures or internal cross-functional groups.
  • Manage the sprints, resources and project pipeline that will drive the team of engineers, infrastructure administrators, developers and consultants in the development
  • Manage the entire Project Management Life Cycle for assigned projects and programs to plan and implement project schedules from inception through on-time delivery within budget constraints
  • Follow ITSM processes established by IS for change and service management using ServiceNow. Work closely with the MGB research community, interfacing directly with investigators and other users to gather functional and business requirements.
  • Initiate, lead and facilitate meetings with project participants and stakeholders (scrum sessions, project team meetings, project status meetings, and stakeholder meetings as required) to discuss projects, proactively resolve open issues, obtain decisions, provide progress updates, and facilitate program retrospectives as appropriate. 
  • Develop and communicate program and project plans, presentations, and documentation that clearly articulate complex concepts, requirements, and risks to team members, stakeholders and leadership
  • Contribute and share best practices on project management, program management, and SDLC principles and standards.
  • Champion agile development methodology and frameworks (establishing agile project management processes to ensure efficiency in the work).

  • Plan, develop and deliver other assigned projects that may vary in scale and type.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or other technical advanced degree or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years’ experience working as a Project Manager delivering software development/infrastructure projects.
  • 3-5 years’ experience setting up Project Management Best Practices & Guidelines.
  • 3-5 years managing Agile/SCRUM projects and SCRUM teams.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience working in a healthcare or life science setting. Scrum Master certification preferred (Scrum Alliance CSM, or equivalent).
  • PMP certification required, PgMP strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Jira and Confluence required.
  • Advanced Microsoft Project, Project Server and Project Web Access skills.
  • Infrastructure Administration, IT Operations and/or IT Research/Development experience is strongly preferred.

Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required

  • Strong knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodology and development processes and demonstrated experience leading Agile/Scrum projects.
  • Experience managing projects and programs in a cross-functional team setting.
  • Strong understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC).
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to make technical decisions, recommendations, and conclusions based upon data.
  • Strong Technical background and familiar with infrastructure and platform IT. 
  • Experience working with project tracking collaboration software (JIRA, Confluence)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with cross functional teams, including staff at all levels of the organization including both technical and non-technical personnel. 
  • Experience designing, developing, and implementing scripts to perform various ETL, cleaning and scrubbing tasks is required.

Working Conditions

MGB has implemented special remote working policies due to COVID-19. These policies are subject to change; however, it is currently expected that this position will work remotely (e.g. from home) full time through June 2021

If onsite

  • Regular Office environment
  • Travel to various MGB hospitals locations throughout the Boston Metro area
  • Expected to work during core business hours, however this position may often require working beyond that to meet project deliverables.

Supervisory Responsibility:             
Resource responsibility of 2-8 FTE and additional contract resources as needed per project.

Fiscal Responsibility                      
Direct fiscal responsibility for the nominated projects with dedicated capital budgets.
