Mailing Lists

Research Computing provides access to use a email list server that serves the MGH and BWH research communities.  

There are different types of email lists available in the system:

  • Discussion (moderated):  is a list on the system that can be used as a  departmental discussion group (two way communication).  All messages sent to the list would be moderated and need to approved by an administrator before going out to the group.
  • Discussion (unmoderated): is a list on the system that can be used for department discussion groups (two way communication). All messages sent to the list would be sent out immediately to the group.
  • Announcements: is a list on the system can be setup for email announcements which is ideal for communicating to large groups (one way communication).  With email announcements lists you track and see how successful your mailing campaigns were.

Features:

  • Subscribe:   All lists can be setup where users can use a web form or send an email to subscribe (signup) to a list with or without administrative approval
  • Unsubscribe:  All lists can be setup where users can be given the option to unsubscribe from a list via a web form without having contract the list administrator
  • Reading Past Messages:  Users have the ability login to the system to see past emails sent to the list
