Research is fundamental to the mission of Partners HealthCare, and the research enterprise, which covers the spectrum from basic science to translational and clinical investigation, accounts for $1billion of the Partners total budget.  The current and still growing level of activity achieved in the decade since Partners was founded has been paralleled by a concomitant increase in the need for administrative support of individual investigators.  

In addition to the growth in sheer size, the Partners research enterprise has grown in complexity due to the increasing importance of cross-disciplinary and larger scale collaborative initiatives, which require new administrative structures to support them.  Research leadership at both Partners and the hospitals has promoted this more complex approach, and many of these collaborative projects not only link faculty across Partners hospitals, but extend to other institutions as well.  

Within this context of both individual and multi-disciplinary research, Partners Research Administration exists to facilitate the vitality and success of the research enterprise by both ensuring rigorous compliance with regulatory and funding agency requirements and serving the needs of Partners investigators through operational infrastructure support.
